Kids love to play Show and Tell! Ask everyone to bring an object to dinner in a bag. During the meal, let each person describe what is in their bag using "I am" statements. (I am green, I am round, I am soft, etc.) The other members of the family must guess their object!

By the end of most days, I feel as if I just ran a marathon. Like most parents my day includes cooking meals, cleaning messes, running errands, chauffeuring children, and SO MUCH MORE. These things are a natural part of any parent’s life; we need a spiritual challenge to break free of the daily grind!

Commit to completing this race through the gospels! Each devo includes Bible reading and a fun activity for your family. If your child brings a signed note to CKidz describing the results of their family challenge, they will earn a FREE Pizza Prayer Party!

CKidz needs your help! We met HUNDREDS of children this weekend seeking assistance. *Please join the CKidz staff at The Warehouse on Wednesday night at 6:30 PM* to build "missionary teams" who can reach even more kids in the community.

More specifically, we will discuss:

1. Creating an outreach program for kids in The Warehouse neighborhood. Conversations have already begun to partner with existing programs, as well as create something new for Sundays!

2. Building a team who can continue to reach children and families at the Visalia Rescue Mission. Currently, we help minister to HUNDREDS of children every holiday.

3. Implementing an "adopt-a-child" program. A family will be able to support and mentor a child throughout the entire year!

4. Brainstorming new ideas for kids in the community!

If you have ever considered helping children in our community, this meeting is a wonderful place to start. Please bring a friend, neighbor, or coworker! Contact Kristin at 804-4076 for more information.

Join CKidz at the Visalia Convention Center at 9, 10:30, or noon as we celebrate the Life of Jesus Christ!

When you get home from church, you will need cupcakes and a trick re-lighting candle. Light it and talk about how Jesus came to be the light of the world. On Saturday, it looked like the light had been blown out. Blow out the candle and wait in silence while the flame is gone. When the flame comes back, celebrate! Point out that nothing can ever snuff out Jesus, the light of the world!

Take turns wrapping each other in toilet paper just as Jesus may have looked when prepared for burial. Talk about how the disciples might have felt when all their hopes seemed destroyed when Jesus died. Ask, "How would you have felt if you had been there when Jesus died? What would you have done?"

Talk about how the burial isn't the end of the story, but that it was a very sad day for Jesus' friends.

You'll need two horseshoe or carpenter's nails, light gauge wire, and a shoelace for each child. Help children lay their nails across each other like a cross, then start wrapping the wire around the point where the nails intersect to bind the nails into a cross. Crisscross the wire in the center. Have the kids recall an event of the Crucifixion with each wrap. Wrap more wire around the top and make a loop to hold the shoelace. Talk about how you can carry a cross for Jesus...

This woman gave Jesus a gift that was very precious. We can give gifts that come from our heart, too. As each child shares something he or she can do to honor Jesus, spray perfume into the air or on the child. Explain to your children that this area of the temple was the place non-Jews could come to pray, but it had become a dirty, noisy, unworshipful place. Together, decorate a worshipful space in your home for Easter Week. Include a Bible, candles, and an area to display the items you'll use this week. You can review these items at the beginning of each devotion. A small, bare tree branch laced with white Christmas lights makes a nice backdrop. Light the candles or turn on the lights only during devotions to keep it special and meaningful.

Join CKidz at the Visalia Convention Center at 9 or 10:30 as we celebrate Palm Sunday with a parade of palms!

When you get home from church, make palm-leaf cookies! Cut frozen cookie dough into 2 X 1/2 inch strips. Place aluminum foil on a cookie sheet and spray it with nonstick cooking spray. Roll the cookie strips and shape them into an outline of a palm leaf on the foil. Close all edges in the outline. Crush green candies in a bag with a hammer, and sprinkle to fill in the cookie center. Bake at 375 degrees for about eight minutes. Contrast the sweetness of the cookies with the harshness of breaking the candies with a hammer. Tell your children that this was a sweet day for Jesus, but he knew that soon he would be broken–or would die–for our sins.

This week, we challenged the kids to carry their Resurrection Egg EVERYWHERE they went! How are they doing?

Don't have an egg? Create one! Take a plastic Easter egg, fill it with drawings of a cross-cloth-rock-star-heart, and teach them the Easter story:

Jesus died on a CROSS. He was wrapped in a CLOTH. They sealed his tomb with a ROCK. In three days, angels that shone brighter than STARS announced, "Jesus is alive!" Why? Because Jesus LOVES you!

Carrying the egg reminds children of the sacrifice Jesus made for us. You can do it!

Love Dare - Weekend Fun!

I DARE YOU to a weekend of serving with your family!

Join CKidz at Rowley Ranch on March 20 from 11-2 as we serve the Blind Baby Foundation. Interested volunteers will have the opportunity to assist children as they create an adorable handprint craft.

The Blind Baby Foundation provides assistance and counseling in the home for parents of children who are blind or visually impaired, ages birth to five years. Quarterly, they also provide fun activities for the children such as an annual walk-a-thon, pumpkin patch, and Easter Egg Hunt.

If you are interested in volunteering with CKidz at the Easter Egg hunt, please contact Brooksley at (559) 909-3057 or brooksleyj@hotmail.com. Families are welcome to join us for a one-hour time commitment as we share God’s love with these beautiful children!

This week at Crossroads, everyone from the preschoolers to adults discussed John 4: 1-26. When Jesus visitted with the Samaritan woman at the well, we learned that HIS living water would satisfy our thirst so that we would never be thirsty again!

Jesus wasn't talking about our thirst for water from a well, he was talking about our thirst for God. The Bible teaches us that we have a thirst in our heart for the living God -- and that is a thirst that only Jesus can satisfy. So when we have Jesus in our heart, He satisfies our thirst for God and we will never thirst again!

Do you want to have some fun with this lesson? Play a game of name that tune! Show your child the name of a well known song (use KidMO). Get them to take a sip of water, and then gargle the tune. Can the family name that tune?!

Spend time in personal prayer, then write a letter of commitment and resolve to your family. Include why you are committing to this commitment until death, and that you have purposed to love them no matter what. Leave it in a place that your family will find it.

"YOU HAVE MAIL" are three little words that became famous with a classic movie in the 90's. Then, they came to life with the invention of the Blackberry. I admit it, I am addicted to technology. I love it when "I have mail."

What can I learn from this? My family also loves mail! Often I will send a note in their lunchbox or email my husband a "hello." Months later, I will find the note stashed in my girls' bedrooms.

My husband and I took a quick trip this week, and I returned to a surprise. My 4-year-old daughter wrote me a love note and placed it in the mailbox. So powerful - I will stash it in my special treasure box just like my kids.

Do not underestimate the power of this dare. Children respond to your word and understand the meaning of commitment. I dare you!

Day 38: Love Fulfills Dreams

Ask your family if you can begin praying together. Talk about the best time to do this, whether it’s in the morning, your lunch hour, or before bedtime. Use this time to commit your concerns, disagreements, and needs before the Lord. Don’t forget to thank Him for His provision and blessing. Even if your family refuses to do this, resolve to spend this daily time in prayer yourself.

I heard an interesting podcast message today by Craig Groeschel from Lifechurch. He shared some staggering statistics on divorce; for example, over half of marriages end in divorce.

Next, he asked a challenging question. If you were told there was a 50% chance of your child being hit by a car on Tuesday, would you allow them to leave the home? Would you spend extra time discussing road safety? Would you make sure you showered them with love and appreciation before they left the house?

Why wouldn't we give the same attention to life inside our home as we do to life on the outside?

Biblically, we are taught that God should always be our number one priority. If we come to Him about all other aspects of our lives, He will Bless them. As a family, challenge yourselves to pray to our Lord for protection and support your home. That will create a bond and intimacy like you have never felt before...

(The "prayer reminder" for my kids is every time we get in the car or sit at the table. Do you have a special place for prayer? Create a visible "prayer reminder place" for your kids!)

Yes, I am a broken record! Frequently I refer to our evening routine of dinner and devotionals, but it means so much to each of us. Example from Proverbs 31 ministries:

I was driving my son to school one morning when out of the blue I started wondering what makes him feel loved. I assumed it was when I buy him something, or when I make his favorite food, or when I let him have a friend over. Basically, I figured he feels most loved when I give him what He wants.

I decided to ask him. "Andrew, what makes you feel loved?"

He sat there quietly, thinking. Then he blurted out a surprising answer.

"THIS!"

"This?" I asked.

"Yeah, Mom. This. You being with me. You driving me to school and talking to me about my day. You telling me you'll be there whe n I get home. That makes me feel loved. Thanks, Mom. I love you, bye!" And he hopped out of the car.

This is love?

You mean I don't have to run out and buy something? Me being there for him is love? Even after I was harsh with my words yesterday prompting him to ask if I was mad about something. Still, this is love?

As I drove away, I wondered if God were to ask me what makes me feel loved, what would I say? Immediately my heart whispered, "Lord, this is love. You asking and caring. You being there. You keeping Your promises like You said You would."

It is that simple. Spend time together and invite Christ to join you through His Word.

This is love.

Day 35: Love is Accountable

Find a mentor—someone who is a strong Christian and who will be honest and loving with you. If you feel that counseling is needed, then take the first step to set up an appointment. During this process, ask God to direct your decisions and discernment.

KRISTIN'S OPEN HEART

Chad and I both have mentors in our life; without them, life would be uncomfortable.

About four years ago, my husband was asked to join a one-on-one study with a friend. He had never done an in-depth Bible study, so he was a bit uneasy. In time, however, his partner grew to be his mentor and source of wisdom. Two years later, we experienced serious life challenges and his mentor helped Chad to remain steady throughout my struggles.

I build many walls around myself; therefore, opening up to a mentor is difficult. However, I knew accountability and relationship wold help me to become more balanced. Therefore, I now rely on a small group of women to pick me up or kick me around in life. They know my thoughts, fears, and triumphs. They honestly share wisdom and experience. They love me for me.

Seek wise counsel - I DARE YOU!

Day 34: Love Celebrates Godliness

Each night after dinner, we read the "Day by Day Kid's Bible" and talk about how we served Jesus. Sounds like a scene out of Little House on the Prairie, but it is a routine we have grown to love.

Why did we start doing this? It is so easy to get stuck in the craziness of the day and forget to appreciate your family. Children LOVE to be complimented as well as share their success from the day. Furthermore, I LOVE to see them smile.

Old fashioned? Maybe. But I dare you to try it!

Day 33: Love Completes Each Other

KRISTIN'S OPEN HEART

I love to take my children shopping with me. Not because of their superb behavior and fantastic taste, but for their honesty. If an outfit does not look good on me, they will let me know!

Why don't we allow our children to help make family decisions, too? Children's minds are free and creative; often times, they find a solution that our closed minds would never consider.

When I asked my children during dinner how to solve a problem I encountered during the day, initially they were shocked. They straightened in their chairs and enjoyed sharing their opinions and solutions. It made my "problem" seem much lighter, and they loved having their ideas respected.

A child's need to be heard is not much different than our own...

Day 32: Love Meets Physical Needs

If at all possible, try to initiate affection with your family today. Do this in a way that honors what your family has told you (or implied to you) about what gives them comfort. Ask God to makes a path to deeper love.

KRISTIN'S OPEN HEART

If you have read the Love Dare, you would know that I had to do some adjusting on this entry. This is a book traditionally shared as a couple, but I chose to utilize it for my family. In the book, the dare provided was a bit different.

That said, physical affection if very important for children to observe. We are made to be loved: God made Eve because Adam needed a partner; He then told them to multiply; God sent Jesus Christ so that we could be in a closer relationship with Him; the greatest commandment is Love God, Love Others.

As a parent, it is important for us to model positive physical relationships. Every child, regardless of their age, needs a hug to feel your protection. My oldest child says I embaress her with my public displays of affection, but she always walks away with a smile on her face. My youngest would snuggle with me all day long if life allowed it.

Just as important is how you display affection for your spouse. Your children are observing the interactions of their parents, and they will use those lessons in their own relationships some day. It is good for them to see their parents holding hands and publicly displaying their love for each other.

This is my challenge for the day: tear down my protective barriers and show my husband how much I love him. Allow my children to see us stop time to hold hands or share a loving hug. It is difficult for me to take off my mommy hat and replace it with my wife hat, but it is important to share that love.

Day 31: Love and marriage

Is there a “leaving” issue you haven’t been brave enough to conquer yet? Confess it to your family today, and resolve to make it right. The oneness of your family is dependent upon it. Follow this with a commitment to your family and to God to make your family the top priority over every other human relationship.

KRISTIN'S OPEN HEART

Do you spend more time enjoying life with friends or with your family? Do you run to extended family when you are hurt? Do you allow your family to share love, sadness, and joy with each other?

When I need a break, I look forward to a girls night out or morning without the kids. Why? It allows me to be me rather than Mom. I hold in my frustrations, and GNO is a wonderful release.

I think time with friends is very important, and I will continue to look forward to those "retreats." However, I think families often see life as a chore rather than a celebration.

Recently, I had a girl's week away with MY three girls. We enjoyed a friends beautiful mountain home as we played board games, read books, and went on long walks. It was the most relaxing experience I have had in months, and it was a time shared with my family.

Is it a challenge to create "oneness" with your family? Yes, but it is worth it!

Day 30: Love Brings Unity

Isolate one area of division in your family, and look on today as a fresh opportunity to pray about it. Ask the Lord to reveal anything in your own heart that is threatening togetherness with your family. Pray that He would do the same for them. And if appropriate, discuss this matter openly, seeking God for unity.

KRISTINS OPEN HEART

Our family had a fantastic Christmas Break; I am looking forward to our time together at Spring Break. I admit it - it is sad I do not find more regular time to relax and enjoy my family.

Why does it take a vacation to turn away from work and chores? Why do we wait for a calendar holiday to enjoy our family?

My prayer today is that I remember every day is gift with my family. I pray I allow myself to put them first, and the business of the day second. I pray God will be the glue the holds us together in unity.

Does today's prayer mean I am on vacation every day? Love that...

Day 29: Love’s Motivation

The most wonderful feeling in the world is to have a tiny voice say, "I love you."

When I was young, those words brought excitement when heard from the lips of my husband the first time. When each of my children started to speak, I could not wait for them to share those three words. When spoken earnestly by a friend, those three simple words make the day much better.

I pretended today was Valentine's Day and showered my family with acts and words of love! They LOVED it!

Day 28: Love Makes Sacrifices

My family needs to come home to a stress-free evening of fun! No responsibilities, no rushing to the next event, no schedule.

Today, I am going to clear all of our schedules. This will require me to cancel meetings to complete family chores, but they are worth the sacrifice. When they come home, I am going to have a party planned! What are we celebrating? Life!

How often do we miss events that are important to our children to complete tasks at work? Which event could have a lasting impact on the life of a child - work or attending their class presentation?

Day 27: Love Encourages

Eliminate the poison of unrealistic expectations in your home. Think of one area where your family has told you you’re expecting too much, and tell them you’re sorry for being so hard on them about it. Promise them you’ll seek to understand, and assure them of your unconditional love.

My kids are going to think I am going crazy with all the apologies I have made this week!!!

I admit it, I am a tough momma. I expect my children to do their best daily at school, complete their chores at home, and show respect to all people. Frequently, my oldest will say, "Mom, we are not perfect!"

Very scary movie, but the line sticks with you: "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."

Although it is important for parents to help mold their children into wonderful little people, creating fun memories is also very important. When we share favorite stories at the dinner table, they have never said, "Remember that time we got all of our chores done, received an A on every test, then went to bed on time. That was amazing!"

Lord, please help me to teach my children balance. Allow us to live, laugh, and love as your faithful servants. Amen!

Take time to pray through your areas of wrongdoing. Ask for God’s forgiveness, then humble yourself enough to admit them to your family. Do it sincerely and truthfully. Ask your family for forgiveness as well. No matter how they respond, make sure you cover your responsibility in love. Even if they respond with criticism, accept it by receiving it as counsel.

Wow, this dare has an amazing impact on your children!

As discussed, we have an evening "ritual" in the Pinter home that is very special to us: dinner with discussion time and family devotions. When I told my children I wanted to share some tough stuff on my heart, they almost flipped out of their chairs.

I apologized for not being patient when they are running late; I said I was sorry for raising my voice when things did not go my way; I told them I am sad that I sometimes choose work over playing with them.

It is such an eye-opening experience for children when we point out our own troubles. It helped my kids know it is okay to mess up - even MOMMIES do it!

Day 24: Love vs. Lust

Lust can come in many forms. Although we may not lust over other people, we often desire a "better life." In our efforts to receive more possessions and power, we move farther away from the love of our Father.

In our family discussion last night, we realized our computers affect our relationship most. We try to do our best at work; therefore, causing us to ignore our relationships at home.

This is a tough one on so many levels. Which angle do I take with my family?

Obviously, when my children misbehave we require them to apologize. Hearing a heartfelt apology, however, is a challenge. They will look at the person they hurt and stammer out an angry, "Sorry!" Tough to pull children out of their selfish tendencies and teach them empathy.

In my personal life, I have the opposite reaction. When I wrong someone, I feel the need to apologize and take away their pain as quickly as possible. I want to fix the place I hurt in their heart.

After the apology, I hold on to the pain I caused. Until I make the choice to give it to God, I remain in my self-made prison.

How do we teach our children to both forgive others as well as let go of their personal burden?

This is a movie; therefore, it requires a very visual statement. I believe we could learn a lot from our old cheesy friend Kirk Cameron!

If your child is not communicating with you due to his time spent with his PSP, take it away. If she is more worried about her conversations on cell phone than with her family, remove the distraction. If little ones are stuck to the television screen rather than spending time with their family, turn it off.

As parents, it is our role to guide our children into healthy decisions. Help them before their lives are defined by false happiness!

Day 22: Love is Faithful

Last night, we discussed tough memories from our past. We have had many years of struggle due to our unfaithfulness. Although we have not committed ourselves to other people, we have chosen our careers over our family too many times.

Despite our shortfalls, we chose to love each other even when we didn't like each other. We chose to work through the pain and pray for intervention. We chose faithfulness.

After nearly 13 years of marriage, this is our first period of extended Bible study as a couple. Many relationships begin with physical intimacy, but I love our new level of spiritual intimacy. As we grow in our walk with Him, our family is also growing in love.

This is a great challenge! When our family begins and ends our day with Christ, it flows much more smoothly.

In the morning, we take turns leading prayer in the car on our way to school. Then, at the end of the day we read from the children's 7 minute Bible. It is a great book that goes through the entire Bible in year. The writing is kid-friendly; my family loves it.

A friend of mine made a great suggestion for prayer at meal times. She started an evening tradition of the "Star Prayer Leader." After the table is set for dinner, she hides a star under the plate of one child. The kids may not peak under their plate during the meal. At the end of dinner, they see who gets to lead prayer for the family. Very fun!

Day 20: Love is Jesus Christ

I love my job! My goal is to help children build a lasting and loving relationship with Jesus Christ. Although I grew up understanding His power, I did not learn about His grace.

It is amazing how a simple dare or competition can change the way you "do life." Alexa is taking her time to do her best; Brianna is controlling her emotions; Ciara is giving gifts to anyone who looks at her; Chad is participating more in the daily home responsibilities; Kristin is MUCH MORE PATIENT and balancing life.

Did we have challenges? Absolutely! Our family repeated many dares that we tried and failed. But our children had the opportunity to learn grace; we will fail, but we are forgiven.

We are a competitive family, so my conversation with Chad last night was interesting. He asked, "If our marriage was a football game, what would be our record in a 10 game season?"

Although we have had many very difficult years, we remained together. Therefore, I visualize us as the underdog that pulls through in the last quarter. I gave us a record of 8-2.

Chad, commenting on our challenging years, put us at 5-5. Ouch! I have NEVER been on a competitive team with a losing or average record.

I am happy we won the prize for Most Improved!

I LOVE our evening routine in the Pinter home. We shut down life at 6 PM to begin our ritual. While my girls are in the shower, I peacefully cook dinner. Chad gets home from work at 6:30 just in time to sit down as a family. After we are done eating, we spend time with a family devotional. We clean the kitchen as a family, Chad puts the girls to bed, and the day comes to a close.

It all sounds very "Little House on the Prairie," but it works for us. When we do not have our family dinner at home, life seems frantic and rushed. It is such a special time to talk with the girls and share our day!

For today's dare, I switched our family time to the AM. I ran out in early in the morning to get my girls their favorite donuts, and I bought Chad a smoothie (love those things). Big smile to start everyone's day!

My middle child, Brianna, follows the many predictions regarding her birth order. She is dramatic, sensitive, and very loving. When she speaks from the heart, she needs a heartfelt response. IF she does not receive it, she becomes VERY SAD!

This week, Brianna has been working hard to control her drama. Chad and I have been praying for her, and she has been talking to God on her own time. Tonight I gave her 10 minutes of personal time to express her feelings and praise her for the efforts. Last week, we had a lot of screaming. This week, we are having heartfelt discussions.

All she needed was to resolve the issue privately with a loving and listening ear.

In a house with 4 girls, we are destined for drama! As my children get angry with each other, their voices quickly rise to a window shattering level. We are trying to teach them to resolve issues "lovingly," but that is a daily challenge.

Where do they get their "spunk"? Their parents! The first 10 years of our marriage, we did not know how to fight fair. Disagreements always ended poorly with someone crying or yelling. Rarely were major issues resolved; we chose to avoid difficult discussions.

With much prayer and intervention, we are now able to control our emotions during disagreements. We have learned how to communicate with each other, as well as how to resolve issues. Many thanks to our friends...

Both Chad and I have our roles within in the house, and it has created a wonderful rhythm. As the girls get older, they also have responsibilities listed on their daily chore list. When they help me out, it helps maintain sanity within the household.

Last week, my mother-in-law was visiting. She is a wonderful woman, and I enjoyed her help with planting and other projects. It was fun to see the smiles on my family's faces when they arrived home to their chores nearly completed and an afternoon of fun rather than work.

When we work together as a team, it makes the day much more joyful!

With the constant challenge of remaining patient, this actually was a bit easier to do. I am learning to leave the room before I raise my voice or my heart rate. Therefore, I agreed to disagree with my children.

Tonight, they attempted to convince me they knew how to complete their homework without assistance. Allowing them to be independent, I asked them to check each other's work. Worked like a charm - they called for me within 5 minutes!

Handling tension with creativity rather than frustration is so much more effective!

Day 10: Love is Unconditional

Again, I had fun with this challenge. I surprised my children at school with a Mommy pizza picnic. They loved it!

That evening, my husband and I had a discussion about unconditional love. We admitted that although we have always loved each other, there have been times we did not "like" each other. As children and adults age, our personalities and motivations frequently change. We married young, so we had some BIG personality changes and challenges.

With God's grace and His example of unconditional love, we "patiently" weathered the storms.

Jealousy has been a difficult subject in our family from day one. We were married young, so we became jealous of each other's hobbies and friends. We have been poorly motivated over-achievers, so we became jealous of other's possessions. As our children grow, it is easy to become jealous of other's sports activities or vacations.

Luckily, my husband and I are very open with each other. As soon as jealousy shows its ugly face, we confront it. We have learned to embrace each other's need for personal space, be proud of our own achievements, and choose a schedule that works for our family.

The first four days of this challenge were so much fun - what happened?! Adding margin to my life has always been my main challenge. As an over-achiever, I often pack too much in to my daily schedule. Therefore, my lifestyle becomes very unhealthy as it is filled with stress and sleepless nights rather than exercise and rest.

I meet once a week with a wonderful group of women who have the impossible challenge of holding me accountable. When I stop working and get in the Word at 9 PM, it allows me to wake up at 4:40 AM to exercise and gather my thoughts before the children are awake. My friends bust me on the computer at night and call me in the morning to get me out of bed. Great friends...

My family did not hear the instructions to only list THREE irritating things about me. Ouch!

I have to admit, today's dare made my blood boil. I definitely used Day One's challenge of patience throughout the day. My family forgot the importance of speaking kindly, and we chose to point out irritating habits of each other all day long.

Although it is important to accept constructive criticism, it is equally important to know how and when to be critical of others. Like it says in today's verse, a loud voice at the beginning of the day sounds like a curse rather than words of love.

Day 4: Love is Thoughtful

My children LOVED this dare! Their reaction is priceless when I show up at school, send them a mysterious note, or slow down to look them in the eye with a huge "I LOVE YOU."

Again, who will hold me accountable to randomly show my husband how much I truly care for him? For me it is easy to express concern when life is difficult, but tough to remember when life is good.

Day 3: Love is Not Selfish

In the Bible story of Martha and Mary, I am definitely like Martha as I plan the event rather than sit at the feet of our Lord. How do I remind myself to appreciate my husband daily, rather than when told by an assignment?

Well, I did well with my husband. It was actually quite fun as we were overly kind to each other. However, please notice the title of the dare: Love is Patient. This is where I failed...

My children woke up late for school, but I was patient. Brianna could not choose the perfect outfit and began crying, but I was patient. Ciara danced and sang rather than eating breakfast, but I was patient. Alexa lost her homework, but I was patient. Then, the clock struck 8:00 AM and we needed to get out the door. Patience gone, calm tone gone, mission aborted.

Fortunately (or unfortunately), each dare carries over from one day to the next. Thank you, Lord, for second chances!

Homemade Ornaments

This weekend, make slat dough ornaments.

Recipe: 1 ¼ c of flour
1 ¼ c of salt
1 tsp of veg oil
½ c of water

Mix together until reaching the consistency of play dough. Roll out ¼ in thick. Use cookie cutters to create shapes, use a straw to make a hole for ribbon, and place on a baking sheet. With oven pre heated to 350, bake for 18-20 min. Cool and paint. Have fun!

Free Family Fun

Join CKidz as we participate in Visalia's Candy Cane Parade! Help us decorate the float on Sunday, November 29th at 4:00 PM at the Crossroads Warehouse. Please bring a potluck item and any extra winkling lights you would like to donate! Call Barb at 280-0172 for directions to the party.

On Monday, November 30th, children in grades Kindergarten - 4th grade are invited to ride on CKidz float. Be there by 6:30 PM; parents must sign a medical waiver before children are allowed on the float. If you have a CKidz T-shirt, be sure to wear it over your warm clothes! Bring a friend, too!

CKidz challenged the class to a month of thanksgiving. Each day, they thank someone new from out of the blue! This morning, I am thankful for the In-Shape staff that greats me with a smile at 5:00 AM. How do they look so happy EVERY DAY?!

On an old calendar, write down who you thanked and why. Be creative! Do you thank the people who serve you at McDonalds? How about your school principal? Admit it, you are thankful for your brothers and sisters...

Trick or treat?!

Place some rocks or rubber bugs in candy wrappers and give them to your kids. After they see that they won't like them, talk about how the world and our enemy try to deceive us by making sin look yummy, but in the end it tastes horrible!

During Halloween, many people like to carve pumpkins. If you invited Jesus to your pumpkin carving party, how would He decorate His pumpkin? Use the following prayer as a guide:

Dear God,
As I carve my pumpkin, help me say this prayer:
Open my mind so I can learn about You; (top)
Take away all my sin and forgive me for the wrong things I do; (clean outside)
Open my eyes so Your Love I will see; (eyes)
I'm sorry for turning up my nose to all You've given me; (nose)
Open my ears so Your Word I will hear; (ears)

Pumpkin Patch Parable

Time to carve your Halloween pumpkin! This month during CKidz we are studying harvest hoopla. We learned we are dirty like this pumpkin, but Jesus can clean our hearts. (Clean pumpkin with wet cloth.) Jesus doesn’t stop there! (Take top off pumpkin.) He reaches deep into our heart removing the hurt. (Reach inside pumpkin pulling out the pumpkin seeds and gunk.) Jesus puts a new smile on our faces. (Carve a face in the pumpkin.) Jesus puts His light in us. (Place lighted candle in pumpkin.) So we can be a light to the world. (Turn room lights out.)

CKidz Family Time

Join your children for a fun night out in the neighborhood! Initial items as you find them; take a bag with you to collect cans and bottles.

When visiting a home, say the following: We are from CKidz, the children’s program at Crossroads Community Church in Visalia. Our children's class is having a scavenger hunt, and we are in search of items for recycling. Each week, our church collects cans and bottles to benefit the children of the community. Our goal is to provide scholarships for over 100 kids who would like to attend summer camp 2010. Thank you, and please keep the children of Visalia in your prayers!

_____ Go to a police officer or fireman’s house and thank them.
_____ Find someone who can recite John 3:16.
_____ Find a teacher and thank them for all their hard work.
_____ Find a preschooler who can sing "Jesus Loves Me".
